Over the past few years with lockdowns, job losses and the economic crisis, mental health has been at the forefront of everyone's mind. This has sadly led to an increase in consumption of unhealthy foods and intake of alcohol.
What is the impact? Unfortunately, it is not good news! Alcohol is one of the worst things for your skin, a diuretic which causes the body to make and release more urine.
This means that the body losses more water and salt than usual - with very low nutrient value it can affect liver function, reduce immunity, hormones and cells are all impacted - thus leaving you with poor, dehydrated & dull skin. Alcohol soaks up the 'good' fluid from our skin which can increase the appearance of wrinkles, sagging and accelerate aging.
Did you also know, within 24 hours of drinking alcohol the surface of our skin is inflammed? Exposure to sun during this time can be more damaging and also result in long term facial redness.
How can we improve skin? Here are our top tips!
Reduce alcohol intake - It takes approximately 3 days for the liver to dispose of toxins, the body has an excellent rate of regeneration!
Drink water - Hydration helps the body flush out toxins and replenish dehydrated skin cell faster.
Cleanse & Exfoliate - as tired as you maybe this is so important! Remove makeup and let those pores breath!
